Semana Santa
Holy Week...
I've been tagging along with the missos or MK's when they go and do interesting stuff...
- Allen and Jeff (missos) spoke at one of the universities that had a forum on "Jesuscristo Revolucionario" along with a Catholic priest
- Sarah (MK) sang at her school mass for Easter
- Allen went to a village about 1.5 hours away and showed "La Pasion de Cristo" followed with a gospel talk
So little by little, hopefully I'll understand more of Catholicism here in Abancay compared with the evangelicals. The Pastor at the IEP (Evangelical Church of Peru) spoke from Matthew 28:1-11 and reminded us of the significance of the cross and the hope we have in Christ's resurrection.
The team here in Abancay (15 Americans and 1 Aussie/ABC) also celebrated Easter and the fact that our Saviour and Lord died and is risen, and that has also been an interesting cultural experience! Since I started High School, Easter meant Youth Houseparty or Youth Getaway... AND chocolate... but this year, dyeing and hiding Easter eggs (who would have thought Easter eggs came in a non-chocolate variety that you had to dye yourself!), singing Easter songs (or were they hymns...) that everyone knew cept me, and having an Easter lunch with turkey, cranberry sauce and apple pie! YUM! I think I like!!
So for other news...
- I move in with the Peruvian family later today... Luciano, Rosemary, Diana and Javier
- I counted over 50 bug bites all over my body.... very itchy!
- I failed my project... again!
Pray that I'll be able to adjust to living with a local family and that there will be many opportunities to share Jesus.

Hey Prilz! Glad you're settling in, though maybe we should send you Aerogard to ward off the bugs!
All the best with sorting out what to do with the project.. and learning the language and settling in more, and building relationships!
Just came back from YG yesterday, it was a very fun weekend. The speaker was clear about the gospel and other theology and the newcomers seemed to fit in and be caused to think, praise God. We missed you, but prayed for you too.
Take care, God bless!
remember how last year youth getaway we were trying to learn how to play 500 at supper, and this year ur in peru eating what seems like a christmas meal at Easter. hehe.
so like bernard said, missed you, and praying for you! :)
Hey Prilz!
Yea... i missed you at YG this year!! 500 wasn't even played this year!! and i now know how you feel at YG... without you there, we were now the oldest ones and it sucks! oh well...
we had 2 buses going up to YG this year! and a handful of new people, which was awesome. Awesome talks from Darryl bout predestination, justification and glorification. Edwina came up too with little Madison. Bruce and Karen came for a visit too (althought i dont' really know them, but i'm sure you do!)
Bummer bout the project... but hey, that didn't stop you from going to Peru did it? :) will pray for you with that and settling in with your new family.
remember how you told me that your family diluted your shower gel/ shampoo ages ago? well, my mum did the same to me and i wasn't happy either... >.<
anyways, take care of yourself. miss ya heaps! mish
Turkey? Apple pie!? YUMMO! And hope the bug bites will ease soon.
YG was heaps awesome - missed you being there and as bernard and nit said, we were praying for you throughout the wkend!
Photos will be up soon on http://www.flickr.com/photos/fayfay/, so check it out when you have a spare moment!
Luv ya heaps!
... great to get the updates.. currently trying to work out how to display your updates at school... still trying to be creative.. no e-mail from the night owls as they are on holidays.. you will have to wait another week or 2.. but still praying!!
...sorry to hear about your project! That must be a bit annoying - well, at least you'll know your topic thoroughly by the end;) And as others have pointed out already: it didn't stop you from going where God wanted you to go;-) And by the sound of it you're not taking it too hard, so that's good. Hope you find a good way to stop the bugs from biting you (= killing the bugs?!?) some time soon! What do the locals do?!? At least they don't have cockroaches on that altitude... or do they?
Hey, church activities/going along with other missos sound great! Did you get any opportunities to talk to some of the people you met on these occasions so far? Well, I suppose as you aren't exactly a shy person, you would have ;-)What I was wondering: how old are the kids in the family that you're staying with? I hope they are nice...and that you'll have good opportunities to talk to them about the gospel!
Oh, and colouring easter eggs sounds like lots of fun (and very right to me - because that's what we do in Austria...we were disappointed that we couldn't find coloured eggs (that weren't chocolate) when we first came to Sydney last year...) - did you draw/paint little patterns, too?!
Anyway, take care - it's so cool to stay informed via your blog, I love it;-) already put a link to here on my own blog ...God bless!
