Lima vs. Abancay
To tell you the truth, I was getting a bit sick of Abancay (not sure if it was cos I was getting bored of my routine, missed the city, ... or what) and was totally looking forward to going to Lima. This morning, I arrived back in Abancay after a week in Lima and Ica.
And can I just say, I love Abancay! After a week of breathing in damp air, pollution and horrid weather... this fresh air and sunshine is SO good! It's good to get away and want to come back! Being a city girl, I was thinking that I would love city life and it would be hard to leave - but it wasn't! I couldn't wait to get back to Abancay... my family, the missos, friends, church, the gym, meeting with my Spanish helper. Getting away has been really good - I got to do city things and hang out with missos and friends from 2004 and now I'm all ready to get on with life in Abancay.
I went to Lima because we had a misso women's conference in Ica (about 4 hours from Lima) and it was sad to see all the destruction from the earthquake, though that made it very real for me. It's been almost a month since the earthquake but its effects in people's lives is evident... many houses, churches and other buildings are in ruins. At the same time, it was cool to be refreshed from God's word and reflect on my spiritual life.
So at the moment, the plan is to stay in Abancay with my family while meeting up with my language helper until the end of November. From the end of November until early March, I'll be helping SIM Peru with bookkeeping and getting intensive Spanish grammar lessons... in Lima! In March, I'll move back to Abancay... find a place to live in, get that all set up and start getting seriously involved in ministry.
